Tips and Tricks to Remove Paint from Glass
If you have old-style wooden window frames you may think the time has come to dig that tin of paint out of the cupboard and give the frames a freshen up. Normally people would use masking tape to stop paint from going on the glass and keep everything tidy but masking tape has never really done the best job and paint always finds a way to go where you don't want it.
There have been new products released to help with this problem. One of the best is Frog Tape, it can be ordered through Amazon Prime and comes in various sizes.
The truth is that no matter how hard you try there is always going to be that one spot that you don't notice until after you have packed everything away and let out an internal scream. When this happens window cleaners in Dunfermline have you covered.
Ways to remove paint from glass
There are a couple of methods we can use to remove paint from glass, firstly let it dry. It will be a lot easier to remove and it isn't going to cause further issues on the glass. There are two options, first, you can use a solvent cleaner to remove the paint. Secondly and the method we use as a professional window cleaning service is to use a scraper blade to remove the dry paint one stroke at a time.
The solvent/ Chemical method
The first point to remember is DO NOT let the liquid touch any paint you do not want to remove, after the time it took to paint that frame you should be settling down for a well-earned cup of tea not starting over.
If you visit your local B&Q or similar there are a multitude of products on offer that are very similar but work on different paint types. If you are not sure cellulose-based solution is a fairly decent one size fits all solution.
To apply the product simply follow the instructions on the bottle. If working inside then ensure you open windows to keep the room well ventilated as most paint removers have very strong fumes that can cause issues with prolonged exposure.
When you have removed the paint simply wipe the area with a soft cloth.
Using the Scraper Method
This is a fairly simple method but if you are unsure always consult with a professional.
You will require some warm soapy water, a razor blade, and a soft cloth. Before you begin you should apply the soapy water to the glass, this will help prevent any scratching when removing the paint.
When you have wet the glass you can take your scraper at a 40-degree angle and simply glide up the window in straight lines lifting the blade from the glass and wiping it clean after each pass. This will stop any removed paint from getting stuck between the blade and the glass which could cause scratches. Repeat this process until all of the paint has been removed from the glass.
When you are finished give the glass a wipe down with a cloth and rinse well.
